Region 6 Report
October 2005
by Randy Drake, Region 6 Director
The run to the Oregon coast at Florence was a
good one. We got in too late for the night run, so we just visited
and readied ourselves for the following day’s activities.
With the coming of daylight, Jon Pyland was on
hand helping himself to the shelter poles to begin a wonderful three
ring circus for the next two and a half hours for about 15 of us. It
was fun but it will be easier the next time. It is a very big and
wonderful tent that will protect us from the rain and wind for years
to come.
Then it was off to the SOLV beach clean up.
This year the beach was the cleanest I have ever seen it in over 23
years. It was a lot of fun and lots of valuables were found by all.
Maybe the whales ate all the plastic bottles. I hear with all of
this global warming it will be the largest sea animals that will go
first. Maybe they are evolving right before our eyes and adapting to
a new food chain.
We returned to camp and began setting up for
the Region 6 meeting. It was a very good meeting and all contributed
to it with a merry mood as the sun came out just for us and it was
very well received. The minutes for the meeting will be in the
November issue as there isn’t time to get them in for this month.
Two offices will be open for new blood next
year. I and the Secretary will resign at the close of this year. So
prepare yourselves for finding people for these two important jobs
within our region. Feel free to nominate your “friends” at the
November meeting, as that is when nomination will open for the year
2006.
Ground Hog Quarry is still on hold as of this
writing, sorry. We are still waiting on the Forest Service to
complete paperwork.
The next meeting will be in Klamath Falls on
the 12th of November. It will be hosted by the Klamath
Four Runners. The meeting site will be at Driveline Service and
Radiator King Building. More information to come.
‘Til we meet again keep the rubber side down.
